NYC PIZZA MARATHON PART 1

Pizza Barn, Yonkers

Home of the super slice.  Weighs about 5-6 pounds, I would say there are 7 slices in there.  And ladies and gentleman THIS IS NOT A GIMMICK.  This is actually grade A delicious pizza and there’s a TON of it!  When you’re slinging out the famous SUPER slice and going through 30 bags of flour a week, everything is SUPER fresh. Plus owner Angelo’s dad opened shop in 1975, so this family know hows to make pizza.  I got half plain, half supreme (onions, peppers, mushrooms, pepperoni and sausage) Magnificent. That was the first stop of the day, and I can confidently say if I didn’t have to leave room for 4 more pizza places, I might have been able to finish it on my own.  I may even go back soon to give it a shot...

Bleecker St. Pizza

The Nonna Maria slice.  Recipe is over 100 years old, and this slice was voted #1 Pizza  in NYC 3 years in a row by the Food Network.  It really is one of the best slices I’ve had, though it’s a specialty pizza, different than a classic slice. The sauce has that zing of sweetness, the basil is fresh and the crust is nice and crunchy from the semolina.  I can’t believe I’ve been missing out as a New Yorker.  Shame on me! Now go get some!!

Artichoke Pizza

Artichoke opened on 14th street in 2008 and is about to open their 20th location!  That success speaks for itself.  Their special Artichoke slice is what I can only describe as warm cheesy artichoke dip atop a thick crunchy DOUBLE crust.  That genius double crust innovation ensures that the pizza never gets soggy from all the rich toppings.   It’s SO worth the calories and a must try if you’re in NYC.  Suuuuch a guilty pleasure.

John’s of Bleecker St.

Talk about an NYC staple, this pizza joint has been here since 1929! They are known for their coal fire pizzas and they are wonderfully crisp and thin, still giving you that cheesy saucy bite.  So good.  It’s a very particular type of pie, one you can eat by yourself in one sitting and not feel like you cant move.  I loved the throwback feel of this place.
